Planning permission granted for a mixed-use scheme in Kildare

Columbia Group is delighted to confirm that its subsidiary Ballymount Properties Limited (Ballymount) has received planning approval for a mixed-use scheme in Kildare. The new development will include shops, a creche, a café and an exhibition centre. There are also plans for a state-of-the-art cancer treatment clinic by Londsale Limited to be based at the site. Ballymount will pay for traffic calming works in the vicinity as part of the planning conditions.

Magee Barracks was previously the site of a British Army barracks and became a depot for Garda Síochana in the 1920s. New barracks were built on the site in 1938, named after gunner James Magee, who raised the Irish flag at the Battle of Ballinamuck in 1798. In 1996, there were still army personnel based at the barracks, but since 1998 the buildings have fallen into disrepair.

David Kennedy, CEO of Columbia Group, Commented:

‘We are so pleased that planning has now been approved for this multi-use scheme. The site is in urgent need of regeneration, and our plans will see new homes and jobs created in the area. We understand that there have been concerns regarding density and traffic, but we are confident that we will deliver a high-quality development that sensitively addresses these issues. ’
